Our Daily Perceptions
Introduction………..
What truly matters? We as human beings do things that otherwise give us temporary relief or maximum satisfaction for a short period of time. We ignore any long term effects or long term solutions. Why such a mindless process? What if that temporary fix you have means nothing? Those outlandish attempts one may have to feel at ease for a short period of time. Habits one may call it. But if these habits don't matter then why do so many people put such a priority over such an intention? What can one do to change this? And to what extent does it matter? And if such things don't matter then why do human beings aim to steal, cheat, and kill each other just to have something for a moment of selfish glory? Why is it so hard to ask for help for certain needs without the intention of being manipulative? Why is it so hard for human beings to be civil with each other?
To begin to understand, let's dig into the heart of our home. Our children. Our parents. Our Faith. Generational inter transmission is partly to blame. This is due to years of childhood adversity. Such things put a large number of people into a dark and impassable fog. Such problems like this can only be fixed in the present. But such tools to fix it are in the past. Not just the general past but, “your past as well”. It is known that people allow emotion to cloud judgment. But this is not the only culprit. There are those full of hate and anger and those full of optimism and happiness. The most life altering part is that negativity grows much faster and seems to have the largest effect. For things such as that we shouldn't go straight to blaming ourselves. But our diplomatic system is also to blame. Let's visit a very historical person. Niccolo Machiavelli. In the Art of War Machiavelli talks about a conversation between Cosimo and Fabrizio. One thing Fabrizio states is how war makes one live in poverty and sects.
“War makes thieves, and peace hangs them”? “(62) For those who do not know how to live from another career and do not find someone to support them and do not have so much virtue that they know how to gather together to make an honorable wickedness, are forced by necessity to take to the road, and justice is forced to snuff them out”. What does this have to do with things such as habit, generational inter transmission, or childhood adversity? Everything. Our diplomatic government goes to war, neglects its people then ensures a system to entrap them. People are incarcerated and stripped down to our bare minimums and openly neglected for the sake of diplomacy. The system used to be a Republic and such is now a Democracy. Our world, our earth, is begging for its full return.
So why such violence against each other? In today's world we are taught to be blind. It's time to open our eyes. It's time to elevate. But there is much that needs to change in order to move forward. Do not assume just because it's a different day and age we've already moved forward. We have not. The time for change is now. Most of which will be grasped throughout this book.
Chapter One Martin Luther King Jr.
A Wise man's hell is a fool's paradise.
-Oscar Wild-
MLK was and still is one of the most influential men in the U.S.A. One man with a dream. His dream wasn't something everyone would pursue, especially the way he did it. King had a mind unlike those around him. He understood the things he wanted no one else wanted him to accomplish. Many doubted Dr. King They doubted his intentions, his ability, and his intelligence as a “black” man. But who were those who opposed the equality of human beings? How painstaking is it to know that the very land you're born into doesn't accept you due to old and ignorant principles? Government officials, police officers, People taught to see “Colour”. The oppression of DR.King and the many, many communities sentenced to poverty had enough. With all this frustration Dr.King and thousands others including those who labeled themselves to be white or black knew progress had to be made by standing together. All these people chose MLK as their leader. And so he led. Even when the majority did everything in their power to hinder a moment for freedom, to be truly free of hate and injustice, Dr.King and his followers persevered above all. Even through the brutal nights that would forever haunt these men, women, and children. Those being oppressed would rise through the ashes.
The oppression made these people strong, not weak. The oppressors once thought by using hate and anger, no one would fight out of fear. It was the oppressor who felt they were justified. But MLK felt he was indeed in the right as well. No one person can tell you that your perception of what's right is wrong. Unless of course your intentions are malevolent in nature. With all this in mind King knew this. He understood that many people felt they were doing right. Due to such dark natured people, King knew he would have people close to him who would turn out to be perfidious to the oppressed righteous cause. People at that time were very much afraid of change. Even ones that wanted change. But this wasn't what the oppressors and even some of the oppressed feared. They feared MLK, because he was different. This man created a platform for revolutionary change. For reform, to change a system based on old ignorant principles. This brings us to another topic.
Machiavelli. In his book The Art of War, Frabrizio talks about how in order to have peace you must strike a war. Fabrizio speaks about how war is struck with the agenda of peace. This is one major fundamental piece of understanding MLK had. War raged on the oppressed. In turn he raged back unlike anyone ever expected. Despite those perfidious to him MLK knew people would attempt to corrupt his cause but he didn’t stop. This is what human beings lack in today's society. Too often people allow peace when in reality the peace never existed. King saw such a charade. The world seems to have forgotten what has happened. These events are lessons. We cannot allow ourselves to sit idly by while our kids and grandkids are taught to live blind. There is peace as long as you perceive it to be. Once one sees past the blinds a new world awakens. You start to see what's real and what's been blinding you all your life. But one must never forget the objective of war is peace. Now back to our topic at hand.
In King's day and age a man of “colour” couldn't have a diverse perception of the world. Even though the oppressors attempted to strike fear by using violence, King knew that was good. This meant his ambition was not only feared but showed great potential. When his success began and change began Dr. King sadly was assassinated. Many would assume it was because he threatened a system of openly unchallenged neglect and cruelty. While this was a part of it, it's not the main reason. The main reason this atrocity happened is because Dr. King was and still is an idol. He was the main source for people rising up. He believed in the oppressed to carry out their ambitions. In Niccolo Machavelli’s book Art of War, Fabrizio says: “To honor and reward the virtues, not to despise poverty, to esteem the modes and orders of military discipline, to constrain the citizens to love one another, to live without sects, to esteem the private more than the public, and other similar things that could easily accompany our times''.
The thing about that quote is that none of those things had any importance in anyone’s world. The oppressed saw these things. They knew they had to make it so. “To honor and reward the virtues.” To do such things shows you respect emotional stability and respect the maturity of mental growth and personal growth. “To esteem the modes”. The lack of respect and regard for the oppressed modes raises many questions. Is the human race insatiable? Though this is only a matter that would provoke thought, if anyone believed such to be true they ultimately would hold themselves back. This was the thing that drove the oppressed. Satisfaction in esteeming the modes. Oscar Wild has said it best: “A wise man's hell is a fool's paradise”. This text shows a great deal of light and darkness. This goes for older times as well as present day life. A fool's paradise lacks simple knowledge or the use of simple knowledge. A fool's Paradise shows ignorance. A world where close minded bliss is welcome. This was a major issue when Dr.king was alive and still is today. People want to live in ignorant bliss. People love chaos. But wise men have books and libraries. Wise men are simply people whom strive forward with purpose. As previously mentioned, the past exists today. Men,women, and children are given a lie. Sold false and worthless truths. It is as if nothing has changed except the day and age. It is as if MLK never existed. We all must in fact be fools. Though this defines us as a whole, people have a choice. We can choose individually to separate ourselves from those who choose ignorance or we can choose to be different.
“In dim eclipse disastrous twilight sheds on half the nations”
John Milton-Paradise Lost
Then there are those of us people who blame Satan for the evils of the world. For the cruelty human beings inflict on one another. The anger and hatred that plagues our world, our minds even. Although this is a way of comprehending evil, MLK didn't feel as much the same as most. We can't blame Satan for all that is evil or wrong. Satan was not the blame for the oppression of those who were deemed less valuable than others or unequal. Humans must draw a line between peace and war. Steak your claim. If what you believe is right then you will fight for it would you not? So ask yourself what have we become as a human race. This “eclipse” is in fact disastrous and everlasting. We have failed ourselves. It is time to be awake from our slumber and stride for betterness.
Chapter Two Divergent
“My Sentence is for open warr: of wiles,
More unexpert, I boast not: them let those
Contrive who need, or when they need, not now
For while they sit contriving, shall the rest,
Millions that stand in arms, and longing wait,
The signal to ascend, sit lingering here
Heav’ns fugitives, and for thir dwelling place
Accept this dark opprobrious Den of shame”
-John Milton Paradise Lost-
Many are familiar with the movie and book Divergent. Some see just a movie and miss minor facts. One of those is the word divergent and its correspondence with the movie. In the movie the main character Tris Prior is what they call Divergent. She's one of the few who fit into many factions and not just one. All 5 of these factions were designed to separate and label people in order to create limitations. Which brings us to the dictionary definition of divergent. Divergent means to be apart from or to otherwise be different in personality or character. But why is this important you might ask? We live in a world where even when there's a choice for each decision those choices show how different we are from each other in society. Although the government doesn't force us to live in sects ``The People '' do it to themselves.`` We The People '' divide each other with ignorance and emotional bliss. But there are those whom can be considered Divergent. People who are different learn to live in sects or otherwise live outside those sects as previously talked about before. These are the ones who are cast out by society only to later become idols through their success.
This has become a thing with society. Self-promoted segregation. We may not realize our own hell but people will cast out anyone who's different or misunderstood. Some will do anything to put down or discourage those who are different. Perhaps out of fear of their potential. Sadly a lot of this pressure causes people to fit in where they can considering they've been trained to believe they are just an outcast. Most feel they have to be accepted somewhere or by someone in this world and lifetime. But such things aren't what truly matters. In fact being cast out by such peers is an opportunity. This is a chance to separate oneself from the “way of the land”. A way that criticizes the many walks of life. A way that rages war for money and senseless destruction of all kinds never considering the effects or consequences of such actions. These are the ones who falsely advertise peace in order to rage war. To tear down everything from the base from which they fabricated from the very beginning. This is what's wrong with our world. Destruction has the “way of the land”.
“Accept this opprobrious Den of Shame”. This is what you accept when accepting “the way of the land”. The ones who are different live in a fool's paradise. But a divergent one shouldnt accept this opprobrious den of shame just because they live in it and others accept their lives and failures as is. One could be asking what opprobrious means. It means to be disgraceful or otherwise worthless. You might think this is a bit much but is it? Considering your different and you know as much it's nothing to endure the evils of the world. With this comes a lesson. Evil is created not born.It is important to remember man accepts this whereas one individual can strive for greatness. Be the one who seeks to build positively from the world. Be exactly as you see in the movie. Be Divergent.
Now, for those around you. Most will not realize the error of their ways till their life is full of regret and pain. Then they'll use the pain to plague the world or heal it. For those seeking to have ill intentions is the reason the world is heading into an irreversible depression. This land is full of negativity. But there is hope. There is knowledge within these dark cold crevices in our society. Such is the need for those who are different and appear to be separate from the normal active human being abiding by the daily will of what their subconscious mind commands of them. So do you just decide to be different? Most times you're different when people have no way of comprehending who you are. So you're made of and told you have nothing to offer and if you had big dreams they were crushed by even the closest of friends and family. Such a thing creates a divide. It is also the one thing that may strike passion into our hearts.
What of the ones who see the error of their ways? See there are those who decide to gain knowledge after some time of ignorance. They use such knowledge to correct the errors of their ways. But not everyone is different just because change is foreseeable. Divergent in today's world generally consist of one who is highly intelligent or highly motivated or otherwise proves to be positively affected by the cruelty around them. And so this marks yet another thought. The beauty behind a world of negativity is the ability for people to become stronger. It's why such a world needs people who are different and always will have people who are in fact different. So if you know you are one who's different then you're being spoken to. No more thinking you can't do it. People who treat you differently are afraid. They want “us” all to simply lay down and give up. If you're different because you know you have to work harder than most people then you know you can't lay down there is no giving up. If you're different because you naturally have a large capacity for learning then you know you must not stop. You're capable of creating something beautiful. Something beyond this world. Something that will totally change life as we know it. Divergent we live in a fool's paradise. The wise man's hell is this “opprobrious den of shame”. No. This simply can't be our home. It has become wrong for people to show any kindness. Kindness today shows weakness and is prayed upon by others. Even when being called the human race the human race can be seen living in sects. Why call it humanity if you create race. After all, race is only a matter of science and anatomy. The same biological chemicals that make one black also make one white. For some strange reason after knowing such facts we still divide ourselves in race and color due to cultural differences. Have we lost touch with humanity? Should reform not come there is much to fear. Especially those whom are different. As time progresses man will snuff itself out only for the embers to spark once again. Once again will a new world rise out of the ashes. This is hope should we survive our very own destruction.
Chapter Three Our Misserie And The Shadow We Cast Should It Be Him?
“ No more of talk where God or Angel Guest
With man, as with his friend, familiar us’d
To sit indulgent, and with him partake
Rural repast, permitting him the while
Venial discourse inblam’d: I must now change
Those Notes to tragic; foul distrust, and breach
Disloyal on the part of man, revolt
And alienated, distance and distaste,
Anger and just rebuke, and judgement giv’n
That brought into this world of woe,
Sinne and her shadow Death, and Misserie”
John Milton Paradise Lost -
Many have heard the saying “you reap what you sow”. Yes we must reap what we sow. With that in mind, beware for judgment is already in store for those whom seek, not to change or much rather, decide to revolt. Disobedience of humanity has already ensured our fall. What is the meaning of such a tone you ask? This generation and the world of the 21st century is in a downward spiral. Moral character is becoming that of a myth. The acting out of individuals is done without that of what must come back to them in part of such actions. As for those who seek not to be disobedient in nature, will still fall with rest but only those with the will and power can rise above the ashes. In this time the ones who rise will perfect and carve a legacy. Those in favor of change shant have fear when such a fall comes. They rather should see it as an opportunity and change, relief even. This is the result of hate and greed. So with this comes an understanding that hate and greed will always coexist with the positive. With the presence of man. “Indulgent, and with him partake”. Those who seek to be disobedient will partake in “sin”. Without a world of “Anger and just rebuke, and judgment giv’n”, No one person could struggle to be greater than themselves. In Niccolo Machiavelli's Art of War Cosimo speaks about spartan tradition compared to a “softer” way of life.
“If like the spartans, an individual were to raise his children in the country, make them sleep in the open, go with head and feet naked, and wash in cold waters so as to harden them, to be able to withstand evil and so as to make them love life less and fear death less, he would be jeered and held to be a beast rather than a man. If one were also seen to eat vegetables and to despise gold, like Frabricius, he would be praised by few and followed by no one”.
Think about how many around you grew up and raised. Many struggle with compassion, others have trouble with their mental or physical toughness. Whatever one struggles with all depends on how they've been guided. Only so many can grow outside themselves. But why would one who cares more about satisfying their spirit rather than the physical and empirical be followed by no one? May it be that our struggle is with the physical world around us? If you have no clear thought then perhaps your mind should be provoked further. Perhaps a story could show a great deal of “innocence”. This is a story connecting us all to the ancient Greek gods. One about Minerva and the creation of Arachne. A story relating to man's disobedience and just rebuke.
